The Minister of Mining, Louis Watum Kabamba, paid an official visit to Mbuji-Mayi, Kasai Oriental Province, during which exploration work on the MICKA project (Kasai Copper Mines) was launched. This initiative is aimed at resuming exploration in the Greater Kasai region and creating conditions for new investments in the extractive sector.

The culmination of the visit was the official launch of the MICKA project, the result of a partnership between Minière de Bakwanga (MIBA), LBK Construction SARL and China Railway Resources Universal (CRRU). The exploration program is aimed at identifying and evaluating the copper potential of the Greater Kasai region in order to create new economic dynamics in this part of the country. This initiative marks a turning point in the diversification of the mining company, which for a long time was limited only to diamond mining.

In his speech, the Minister of Mining emphasized that this project corresponds to the vision of the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Antoine Chisekedi Chilombo, implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tluka and aimed at more efficient use of the natural resources of the DRC for the benefit of the population. In accordance with the provisions of the Mining Code and regulations, this mutually beneficial partnership between Miba SA and CRRU provides for the development of local infrastructure and the use of local labor.

The ceremony was also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between MIBA and CRRU, followed by the symbolic launch of exploration work. According to representatives of the mining sector, in-depth exploration of the Congo's interior is an essential stage for attracting new investors, developing sustainable mining projects and creating jobs for local communities.

With the official start of exploration work, Miba opens a new chapter in its history. An ambitious goal has been set to make East Kasai the future major copper mining and polymetallic center in the center of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. If the results of the geological research confirm the expectations, the Mickey project can restore MIBA to the status of a strategic player beyond the diamond industry, while increasing the economic attractiveness of the entire Greater Kasai region.

Through the MICKA project, the Government intends to strengthen exploration activities in Greater Kasai and contribute to the diversification of the national mining industry. Thus, this initiative can give a new impetus to a region historically known for its mineral wealth and significant role in the economy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
