Maureen Nkatha, an intern on the project, described the program as an opportunity for graduates who had previously struggled to find work. «This is a great opportunity for me and my colleagues», she said. 'It gives us the opportunity for career growth and technical experience that will serve us well in the future.' Nkatha thanked President William Ruto and Vice President Kitura Kindiki for the government-sponsored paid internship program that has enabled many to transition from unemployment to professional growth.
Local resident John Muryuki, who works at the construction site as a day laborer, noted that the project has become a lifeline for many young people in the area. According to Moriyuki, this initiative has not only improved living conditions, but also contributed to social stability by supporting productive employment of young people. «Many young people have not worked before, despite having qualifications, which has led some to crime», he explained. «Now they're focused on building their future».
In addition to the economic benefits, the project has also served as a unifying force, bringing together young people from Embu and nearby towns to work together. Workers urged the government to continue to prioritize development projects that promote self-sufficiency and protect young people from crime, political violence and substance abuse.
The Embu Modern Market project is part of a broader government strategy to develop cities and empower the next generation through practical skills training and job creation.
