Speaking after the signing ceremony at the State House in Dar es Salaam, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan said the initiative was part of her Government's strategy to increase the value of the region's energy resources and deepen economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
She expressed gratitude to President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for, as she noted, the unwavering partnership that has strengthened relations between the States and brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
The future energy hub should create new jobs and investment opportunities, allow citizens to benefit more from the entire energy value chain, and accelerate economic growth in both Tanzania and Uganda. «This project is part of our commitment to increase the value of resources and expand economic cooperation», she stressed.
The signed agreement opens a new page in the energy cooperation between Tanzania and Uganda. Both countries intend to build on their strategic partnership to boost regional energy trade and support industrial development.
Meanwhile, President Museveni has already returned to Uganda after a two-day working visit to Tanzania, during which he held bilateral talks with President Samia on strengthening cooperation between neighboring States. On Friday evening, he was met at Entebbe International Airport by Vice President Jessica Alupo, Head of the Civil Service and Cabinet Secretary Lucy Nakyobe, as well as other senior officials.
During the visit, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum that is expected to deepen cooperation in the energy sector and support sustainable economic development. The visit also confirmed the strong and long-standing ties between Uganda and Tanzania, once again emphasizing their commitment to promote regional integration through strategic economic alliances.
