Farmers in Central Kasai are experiencing difficulties in developing their businesses due to an acute shortage of production facilities and resources for agriculture, which is compounded by ongoing financial instability. To overcome these difficulties and increase productivity at the local level, the National Agricultural Development Program (NPSD) has launched a subsidy mechanism called «matching grants». This program is aimed at small producers and their organizations in order to increase their income.

The needs on the ground are enormous. In Nganza, Anaklet Kapadzhika, chairman of the Kashipa Malanda Peasant Organization, emphasizes that its 85 members are constrained by a lack of resources. «We are coping with what little we have. With the support of the government, we could cultivate large areas», he explains. This conclusion is shared by Ntumba Kalulambi, a local farmer who, despite having access to vast lands, lacks financial resources and labor. She calls on the authorities to provide mechanized equipment such as tractors to facilitate agricultural work.

To meet these expectations, the HDP has mobilized $6 million in an envelope. According to Jean Nsamaba, an expert of the program, this device is open to individual producers, cooperatives, as well as small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises. Individual producers can request up to $10,000 with a 10% personal contribution, while cooperatives can receive up to $50,000 with a 30% contribution. A briefing was held last Thursday to draw the attention of local stakeholders to this funding opportunity.
