Dr. Latifa Khamis, Director General of the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), highlighted Tanzania's role as a strategic trading hub for Congolese businesses. «TanTrade remains a link in trade. We invite businessmen from the DRC to explore the opportunities available in Tanzania», she said. Dr. Khamis emphasized her commitment to improving transportation services and expanding trade in industrial and food products. She noted that this cooperation builds on the success of the Lake Tanganyika Trade Conference, which identified Kigoma as the most important trade center with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Governor of South Kivu, Professor Jean-Jacques Purusi Sadiki called on Tanzanian investors to explore the DRC, promising a favorable and secure business environment. «There are many business and investment opportunities in the DRC in various sectors», he said, noting that his government is working to ensure security for investors. Professor Sadiki also announced plans to attract Congolese traders to participate in the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF 2026) to further deepen commercial ties.
Addressing potential investors, Professor Sadiki said: Sadiki highlighted the proximity, common cultural ties and linguistic commonality of the two countries as significant advantages. He urged Tanzanians to forget about negative perceptions of security, saying that the eastern part of the DRC offers real opportunities for economic growth.
The Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association (Taffa) has also expressed support for this initiative. The President of Taffa, Mr. Edward Urio, confirmed the role of the association in facilitating the transportation of goods from the port of Dar es Salaam. He stressed the importance of Kigoma as the main route to the Kivu region and suggested that the construction of a dry port there would greatly simplify the consolidation and transit of goods to the DRC.
