According to a communique from the U.S. Department of State, the participants agreed to strengthen support for ongoing diplomatic initiatives. They pledged to facilitate the successful conclusion of the dialogue between the Congolese authorities and the AFC/M23 armed coalition within the framework of the mechanism launched in Doha. Kinshasa and Kigali also agreed to take steps to restore mutual trust. The leaders of both countries agreed to refrain from aggressive rhetoric and hostile actions, including political attacks that could hinder the implementation of the Washington agreements.
At the talks, the delegation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported on progress in operations to neutralize the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (DFOS), and the Rwandan side informed about the withdrawal of its military contingent and the gradual lifting of defensive measures. Both countries expressed gratitude to the United States, Qatar, Togo and the African Union Commission for their continued support for the peaceful settlement. Great Britain was thanked for organizing the London session of the Joint Supervisory Committee.
According to the final communique, the next meeting of the Joint Coordination and Mediation Committee (JSCM) is scheduled for the next two weeks to assess the results achieved and further advance regional stabilization. The negotiations took place in the context of multiple diplomatic efforts, including the Washington Agreements and the Doha process.
